Please join Giri and Govinda as they head back to The Yoga House in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Canada for an evening of Chakradance. This is a well-being movement practice using spontaneous dance, and creativity, for the purpose of balancing and healing. No dance experience is necessary, and there are no steps to follow. Think of it as a “dynamic moving meditation to music” or as the “musical sister of yoga”. (without the poses). There is no right or wrong way to move your body. It’s a journey of self-discovery. Each chakra is explored through specific music, guided imagery and your own free dance, in a dimly lit room, with eyes softly closed. This begins to activate inner experience.
It’s almost like entering into a waking dream. You may see images in your mind’s eye while you are dancing or gain insights. You may also experience feelings, emotions or physical sensations. This class concludes with participants creating a personal mandala artwork, to help “anchor” the experience and for your own personal use in reflecting on the class in the following days. No art experience is necessary. Chakradance is for everyone, you may even do it in a chair!
Chakradance puts you in touch with the sacred within yourself. It helps you re-connect with your own soul.
Chakradance creator, Natalie Southgate, studied Jungian psychology, and the components include archetypes and of course mandala. Carl Jung was one of the first westerners to work with the eastern map of the chakras. The primary aim of Jungian psychology is to form an ongoing relationship between our conscious mind and our unconscious mind. The basic premise is that the more deeply we know ourselves, the richer, fuller, and more whole our lives will be.
